Ash Ra Tempel Comprised
of one amazing composition recorded live, which lasts almost
seventy minutes, the reunion of Manuel and Klaus
incorporates many fresh ideas that
have not been explored before; rather than just rehashing
the old formula. The duo were in top form for this live
concert. They were invited by Julian Cope to perform at his
Cornucopea festival in April 2000, the choice was clear and
the two played a sold out concert at the Royal Festival in
London in a one time reunion. This is one of two of the
results of this brilliant and inspired reunion between
Manuel and Klaus. The other release, 'Friendship ' reviewed elsewhere
in AMP is every bit as
amazing. What a comeback!
On 'Gin Rosé at the Royal
Festival Hall', beats and breaks abound and the production
Is seamless. The breaks are tight, with both Shulze and
Göttsching supplying some classic modal solos on
Minimoog, and electric guitar respectfully. The duo still
keep a fresh attitude, giving in melodies just enough to
underline a motif, retaining globally a clear perspective of
progression. The atmosphere of most musical ideas have time
to develop into their own lives, even in short solos. What's
new, when compared to their earlier work, both solo and as a
group, is the evolution of the compositional level, now
making a larger place for an intuitive delicacy that shrouds
the arrangements. If you have liked Ashra's earlier
offerings you'll savor this new one on the basis of an
expanding expressive component.
