De Giacomo Utilizing the best aspects of trance, techno, ambiance, and house sensibilities, De Giacomo serves up a deliciously dark brew of wonderful sounds sure to exercise your senses. Often throughout this disc, orchestral electronics are subverted by experimental sampled sensibilities, creating hazy clouds of sound where various instruments and samples cut through the mix. There are so many types of sounds that the composer plays with,... a strong sample is Casanova, a collage of ominous drones and effects over which ethereal vocals, pads, and odd percussive and synth textures flow. Dreampoint possesses a distinct techno dance beat feel, where keyboard melody battles underlying dissonance's for a dreamy Gothic atmosphere. Tongue Talk offers a respite from the lower tones prominent on the album by conjuring up high-pitched percussion, drones, and backbeats which are all given a somewhat airy quality, while percussive samples help complete an aural painting of desire. The textural elements of this music are the main source of its musicality, and the composer succeeds in drawing us into a netherworld rich with imagination and atmosphere. information: Review by Ben Kettlewell |
