Audioasis Audioasis, composed by Peter Beeby and Shaun Pilkinton, two Australian musician/composers is a wonderful blend of ambient tinged synths, sax, guitars and bass. After a couple of listening sessions, the music brought back memories of another synth/guitar duo, Martin Kornberger, and Freidemann Witeka from Germany. Both have a great sense of melody, and both use the keyboards primarily as a backdrop for the guitars and sax. United by their austere simplicity, these diverse pieces flow together beautifully for an entrancing journey. The opening cut, 'Sign of the Zephyr', seems to unfold like a dark-hued flower, shimmering in the tremulous daylight of the melody, casting a slow-motion net of glissando sustains and overtones. The eight compositions featured here are with one exception, short, delicately constructed pieces of thoughtful reverie. Only one of the eight tracks runs over six minutes. Much ambient music is meant as background music. These rich compositions, however, deserve attention, to hear the subtle shifting elements and the interplay between the guitar and other instruments. The serene cover art fits the music very well. By the time you reach the end of Audioasis, any sign of tension you may have had will likely be long gone. Beautifully moving, powerful, and highly recommended to fans of floating ambience. Review by Ben Kettlewell information: |
