Jonn Serrie is an interesting phenomenon in space music. While many artists are making their product as glossy as possible, to garner attention in the giant new age bins at major CD stores, Serrie prefers a more personal approach. The long awaited release of Jonn Serrie's years at the top of the space music universe is now complete. Century Seasons is a two CD retrospective, containing more than two hours of music. Primarily featuring the long form space music tracks from his previous albums, the project includes two new compositions; "Deep Mystery" which will appear on a future album called Lumia Nights, and "Andromeda Dream" which was custom scored for this album. Regarding this new collection, Jonn said: "I wanted to celebrate the artistic direction of pure space music which is where I began and ultimately where my deeper vision resides ." Serrie has a signature sound that he is comfortable with. Comfortable is a good word, because the music evokes feelings of comfort and warmth. Spacious, floating, and ethereal, the combined use of samplers and synths seem to stretch out and envelop everything, blanketing it in a layer of billowy softness. Century Seasons is is definitive space music. By that I mean it can be used to literally define the term. To me, this is the hallmark of a special album. I put this on one night and marveled at how "light" the atmosphere in my house seemed to be. The double album ends with the most beautiful selection, "The Last Secret" from the album, Midsummer Century, which begins with irregular twinkling synth notes, coming to light in the deep space sky, one by one. Graceful and gentle washes of synths bring a deep sense of resignation and resolve to the song, as the piece winds down by spiraling into a slow dissolve, as if the night was being slowly erased by a deeper, yet comforting darkness.Highly recommended for ambient and space music fans everywhere.
