Michael Allison, aka Darshan Review by Ben Kettlewell
Darshan Ambient
This
disc is the flip side of composer/musician and ambient composer, Michael
Allison's musical persona. He has been making music for 25 years including
tours and albums primarily as a bassist and vocalist with Nona Hendryx
and Zero Cool, China Shop, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and Empty House.
The album is a tasteful melding of shapeless ambient drifts. Some of the
instrumentation may lean toward a New Age sound, but the free-flowing
nature is first class. In the late '80's turning his attention to synthesizers,
Michael has produced an enormous catalog of experimental electronic and
ambient music in MP3.coms DAM CD format. The current list includes: Vermilion
Sky, After The Night, Sans Halo, Safe, Skyful Of Bliss, The End Of Days,
Autumn Light and his new release, Darshan Ambient.
This CD is Darshan's most compelling and mature effort to date. He combines
subtle sequences and dense atmospheres to create a diverse and mezmerizing
soundscape. His explorations uncover a a true work of beauty. The contemplative
journey covers the gamut from subtle atmospheres like "Adrift in
the Amber" to light and contemplative pieces like "The Mirror
of Silence", and "The Dream Pool." Allison infuses his
dense arrangements with feeling and purpose. The sound design is flawless.
This is a masterwork from a master artist.
